Professional Liability / E&O

When the claim is about your advice, not your premises.

General liability covers bodily injury and property damage. What it won’t cover is a claim that your advice, your design, your service or your work product caused somebody a financial loss. If you sell expertise, that’s your main exposure, and it needs its own policy.

Professional liability is written on a claims-made basis, which makes retroactive dates and tail cover important. A break in continuous cover can leave years of past work exposed. We manage that continuity, particularly when you change carrier or sell the business.

What you get

Covers the real risk

Financial loss caused by your advice or your work, which general liability excludes.

Retroactive date protected

Continuity held across carrier changes, so old work stays covered.

Tail cover planned

Extended reporting arranged when you sell or close.

Defence from the start

Defence costs covered from the first allegation, whether it has merit or not.

Common questions

It is. Professional Liability and E&O are two names for the same cover, and we keep them on one page here rather than splitting them across two.

It answers claims made during the policy period, whenever the work was done, as long as that work falls after the retroactive date. That’s why unbroken cover matters more on this line than on any other.
